Oh crap, I am the first person to post a note on this wine in CellarTracker! Who am I going to copy? Gaaaa!

Seriously, it’s definitely Mourvèdre, as the deep savory notes and touch of wildness betrays the variety. The “California” appellation doesn’t allow me to asses the ‘faithfulness to terroir’, but it’s certainly true to the variety with dark, black fruit, herbs and meaty/feral finishing notes. Not as rich as say a top Bandol, but not so lithe as a Hardy Wallace wine, this occupies a middle ground that is fantastic with beef stew, and still approachable as I finish the last sips of my glass post-dinner. The tannins creep in on the finish, as does a hint of tobacco, which adds an extra layer of complexity.

I really like this. It’s another example of Mourvèdre succeeding in California.

they used to grow lots of it, until a point when they started ripping it out to plant Cabernet.

Good for cash flow.

Lousy for meaningful wine.

Sunshiny Mourvèdre that has both the deep, savory elements, and also an orange zest brightness. Lots of depth and a decent amount of structure suggests letting this develop longer to see where it goes. The direction so far is positive.
