WTN: TablasCreek Vermentino '21...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Thu Feb 24, 2022 1:57 pm

We tried this last night down at Pig+Fig:
1. TablasCreekVnyd Vermentino Estate/AdelaidaDist/PasoRobles (13.0%; Rolle; Regenerative Organic Certified; tartaric acid) 2012: Light gold color; very aromatic/perfumed Vermen/floral/carnations light chalky lovely nose; quite tart/tangy/slight metallic fairly strong Vermen/floral/carnations light chalky bit tight flavor; very long rather tart/tangy bit tight/lean strong floral/Vermen/carnations slight chalky finish; lovely perfumed aromatics of Vermen but a bit tart/lean on the palate right now; will undoubtedly put on weight & get more lush; a beautiful Vermentino at a great price. $24.00 (VIN)

1. This wine, their first w/ the Regenerative Organic Certified seal, was released almost two weeks ago. Since I had a larger order of the '19 Roussanne, a monthly special & a steal, coming, I went ahead & added a case of this new Vermentino, sight unseen. I have great confidence in the quality of all the TCV wines. I was not disappointed. This Vermen has beautiful aromatics. It seems a bit spare on the palate right now, but it is sure to put on weight & lushness and become another TCV beautiful Vermen w/ age.

Sounds delish. Why the "tartaric acid" in the wine name?
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

Well, Jenise... like Ridge... when they do an addition to help the wine .. they put it on the label. In this case, they added tartaric acid to boost the must acidity at start of fermentation. Ridge will often indicate a x% water addition as start of fermentation (Jesus units) so it won't be so alcoholic.
