WTN: Three Whites...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Sun Feb 20, 2022 7:36 pm

Tried these three w/ Susan over the weekend:
1. Dom.Rietsch Demoiselle GWT WTW VdF (U/lightly fltrd; 14.3%; CamilleRiviereSlctns/Fruit of the Vines/LongIslandCity/NY) 2020: Deep golden bronze/garnet color; strong very resiny/phenolic/ViniMacerati very slight lychee/GWT low fruit somewhat earthy somewhat interesting mostly VM nose; very tart/tangy/rather metallic austere tannic strong VM/resiny/phenolic no fruit bit complex flavor w/ strong tannic bite; very long quite tart/tangy/austere/metallic rather tannic strong phenolic/resiny/VM slight hair oil/GWT little fruit finish w/ rather tannic bite; a rather austere VM w/ precious little fruit & not very pleasant to drink; it might turn into something interesting w/ 5-10 yrs age but that's just a half-a$$ed guess; pricy for a not very pleasant wine. $34.00 (KK)
______________
2. HasenSprung GrunerVeltliner Niederosterreich/Austria (12%; ScopertaImprts/ClevelandHeights/OH) Krems an der Donau 2020: Paale gold color; very light GV/white pepper/slightly floral slight dishwater bit chalky rather simple/dull nose; lightly tart slight GV/white pepper/vaguely floral slight earthy bit dishwater rather vapid/dilute/dull flavor; med.short light GV/floral/white pepper rather dilute/watery/vapid finish; speaks of GV w/ a whisper; a pretty dull/vapid GV that makes the recent Solminer look pretty good; you pays what you get for. $14.50/litre (K)
______________
3. PassoLento LaMarca di SanMichele DOCG: Castelli di Jesi Verdicchio Riesrva (13%; www.LaMarcaDiSanMichele.com; KermitLynchWineImprts) Cupramontana 2017: Med.light gold color; some pungent/musky/resiny quite floral/carnations/marigolds rather perfumed/aromatic bit honeyed light pencilly/oak slight chalky quite attractive nose; bit soft fairly rich/lush rather floral/carnations/bit spicy bit pungent/marigolds/herbal light pencilly/oak slight tangy/metallic/chalky flavor; very long slight tangy/metallic rather pungent/floral/herbal/marigolds slight pencilly/oak bit chalky fairly rich finish; a rather attractive expression of Verdicchio & richer than most; bit pricey at $30.50 (KK)

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. Rietsch GWT: This is a skin-contact GWT & it certainly shows. Dominated by the VM character & was not very pleasant to drink. Has it warmed up to room temperature, it became a bit more palatable & not as tannic, and the GWT started to show thru.
CamilleRiviere specalizes in natural wine. It does not show as particularly natty when initially drunk. But sitting in the btl overnight, it developed a dreadful wet dog fur/oxidative aftertaste that pretty much ruined the wine the next day. Furthermore, some 10-15 min after I took my last swallow & spit it out as undrinkable; I sneezed. Sure enuf, that dreadful wet dog fur welled up in my mouth. Bad stuff.
