Batailley?

Somewhere out of the dungeon I pulled out a 2010 version of this Bordeaux …. Not even sure where I got it but I do have one left…. In any event this was one of the best wines I’ve had in the last couple of years. Anyone have views? Should I be more systematic buying backwards and forwards?

I've followed this Chateau since I visited it in the late 70s. Of recent times it's been making more fruit forward drinkable wine ( but then haven't they all?)

I always bought a case EP (except during the years when the kids were small and mortgage interest was big) and I must have had the 2010 vintage but that was before I recorded wines on CT.

But The Wine Society were selling the 1988 vintage in 2016 and it was good.

If your 2010 was stored OK I wouldn't have any concerns opening it. It's a classic Pauillac claret.

Unlike Peter, I have no useful comments on Batailley's vintages in the last 30 years or so, but the name does bring back memories. I travelled frequently between Brussels and Paris in the 70s and 80s and Château Batailley in half bottles was a very reliable standby wine in the train's dining car. In those days, there was a luxury train taking some 2 hours 20 minutes which was ample time after a day's meetings to take a relaxing dinner cooked on the train and served on a properly laid table by skilled waiters. Since the mid-90s the train takes about an hour less but catering is snack bar or at best airline style, except during the pandemic when there has been none!
