WTN: Koenig Syrah SnakeRiverVlly/ID '18....(short/boring)

by TomHill » Thu Feb 17, 2022 4:34 pm

Joe brought this Idaho Syrah for us to try:
1. KoenigVnyds Syrah ThreeVnydCuvee SnakeRiverVlly/ID (14.8%; 21 brls) Caldwell/ID 2018: Very dark/near black color; rather intense blackberry/boysenberry/Syrah bit licorice/pungent rather toasty/oak quite attractive nose; bit soft rather rich/lush/ripe strong boysenberry/blackberry/Syrah slight licorice/pungent some toasty/oak light earthy flavor w/ modest hard tannins; very long rather strong blackberry/boysenberry/ripe Syrah/licorice/pungent some toasty/oak finish w/ modest tannins; reminds some of OR RogueVlly Syrahs than anything; quite a good Syrah & nothing to suggest from an unknown wine growing area.

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. Not had a lot of Idaho wines & not sure what to expect from this Syrah. It didn't show anything I would call distinctive but it was a very good/solid expression of Syrah.

Interesting! Not a winery I know of (nor does Caldwell ring a bell) but there sure are some good things coming out of Idaho these days including the best American tempranillo I've ever tasted.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
