Tried these two this weekend:
1. Eugen Muller Vom Basalt Riesling (QmP; Kabinett; A.P.Nr. 5 112 070 22 21; SkurnikWines/NY; 9.5%) Weingut E.Muller/Forst/Pfalz 2020: Light gold color w/ lots of tiny mesmerizing bubbles that swirl about; strong chalky/minerally some R/mango/bit pineapply attractive nose; fairly tart/tangy slightly sweet (0.5%-0.8% r.s.) lightish mango/pineapple/R/bit floral some chalky/mineral no dissolved CO2 pleasant lightweight flavor; med. tart/tangy slightly sweet light floral/R/mango/pineappl bit chalky/mineral finish; a pleasant simple near bland R that doesn't have a lot to say; one step above BlueNun but speaks of R and slightly sweet. $19.50 (KK)

2. Massican passito Sweet NapaVlly TW (13%) Massican/Calistoga 2010: Deep golden color; some earthy intense graey/passito/very orangey slight herbal/SB bit cedary/pencilly beautiful complex nose; very tart rather herbal/SB very orangey/grapey/passito quite sweet very complex beautiful flavor; very long/lingering intense passito/grapey/orangey quite sweet beautiful complex finish that goes on&on; a beautiful example of a mature passito that will go out & improve another 10 yrs.

1. When I saw the R on the shelf, I thought it was an Egon Muller w/ a new label. Alas, it was the wrong Muller.

2. Massican: This is an example of a wine they should be making more of in Calif. Made primarily of SauvBlanc that was laid out on wooden racks to dehydrate. It reminds a lot of the
mature Vignalta Fior d'Arancio Orange Muscat passitos I've had at maturity. Beautiful dessert wine.
