- 2017 Idlewild Nebbiolo Fox Hill Vineyard - USA, California, North Coast, Mendocino County (1/16/2022)
Translucent garnet, fading to a pink splashed with orange at the rim, this looks like Nebbiolo. Roses, red fruit, a little bit of licorice makes this smell like Nebbiolo. The flavors follow the aromatics on a light-bodied frame that is surprisingly approachable, the only un-Nebbiolo thing about it. Other than the structure, this vintage reminds me quite a lot of the Produttori di Carema wines, specifically the 2015 Riserva. The lack of tannic structure will have me drink my other two bottles near term, but they will be a lovely wine to ease my wait for their Piemontese brethren.
