Wine choice with corned beef.

by Bob Parsons Alberta » Mon Jan 10, 2022 12:25 am

I was invited to dinner.."we are having corned beef, mashed and mushroom sauce..you can bring a dessert!"

I always think a Vouvray Chenin Blanc is quite good with the corned beef but my host likes his red wine so go with the flow.

2019 Les Vignerons d`Estezargues Signargues Domaine d`Andezon, CdR Villages.

Seems to be quite a select cooperative. 14.5% alc, good natural cork, $25 ish. Decanted, white pepper on the nose with black fruits. L:ightish tannins, earthy, has good grip. Needs a few more years I think. Black cherries and peppary. Started to open up in the glass, hint of sweet fruits. Will look out for this one downtown.

d'Andezon is $25?

I used to buy it for $11 (US).

Forget the wine, I can't get past mushroom sauce on corned beef. :)

I had same reaction as Jenise, then parsed that sauce was for mashed.
Usually when we do corned beef it is with cabbage, and I serve Riesling (I consider it Irish-American Choucroute). Have done Gamay sucessfully.
Glad the CdR worked. I think it's (unusually) all Syrah? Like David I remember this as $10-12.

I was a guest but to be honest, I did not think it was the greatest food wine match but this CdR was very memorable.

Canadian prices are often double the American price, especially at the lower end.
