- 2018 Elyse Zinfandel Korte Ranch - USA, California, Napa Valley, St. Helena (1/7/2022)
It’s always a day at the amusement park when I open an Elyse wine made by Russell Bevan. The Korte Ranch Zinfandel is a speed coaster with a big rush. It doesn’t rattle, it’s a rocket ship on a rail. There’s some of the opulence of the Elyse Morisoli Zin, but it never gets so amped up. There’s a tether that keeps it from getting off track, and makes it a little more food friendly (tacos al pastor in my case), but still a lot of fun to drink on its own. For me it’s the Zinfandel equivalent to their Holbrook Mitchell Cab, which is still totally Russell but maintains some contact with the past. This is pretty much dead on what I want from the Bevan/Elyse partnership.
