WTN: The Movia Lunar Symphony

NYE was not an especially fancy meal for us, but it was nice to have everything connecting and firing on all cylinders. The wine was a glorious 2008 Movia Lunar 9 Chardonnay. Nutty minty apple and pear flavors that remind you of standard Chardonnay, but inflected with sweet citrus peel notes, salty mineral detail, spice and herbs. Plus a lovely texture with all the tactile unfiltered haze of harmoniously-aged orange wine. Absolutely lovely!

Plus, it was a perfect match with the food. I don't usually obsess over these things, but with red bass, saffron risotto, roasted squash and sauteed fennel and kale, it was love and different dimensions in every bite.

One of the top Slovenian wineries and one of the most famous abroad, along with Cotar and Simcic.

I know the names, but am no expert in Slovenian wines. However there is a shop near my apartment specializing in Central European wines with great selections and great prices. I couldn't resist!

Cotar I've heard of!

I will be on the lookout just in case.
