2015 Thomas Pinot Noir Dundee Hills
When a pinot is SO good you can hardly remember the last pinot you had that came anywhere close: this. Cherry fruit, black tea, cherry cough lozenge, pepper, amazing spice, Chambolle-like. Texture is ethereal with terrific acidity and lazy tannins, and it's all there the second you pull the cork, no decanting required.

This is an impossible-to-get wine. Mr. Thomas is a one-man show, does everything himself by hand. He doesn't own a computer (we're told) and does everything snail mail. The line to get on his list is huge and would be even more so if people knew how to reach him. (I'm not on his list, but a friend is and he split a case with me.)

I see drink-by dates on CT out to 2033--sorry, I didn't taste that kind of longevity, though no doubt this wine in other vintages can do that. And--who cares, it's so perfect right now.

I have never tried a Thomas pinot, and it's good to hear it seems to excel the considerable hype for this wine. I do think a big part of the hype is the 'story' you mentioned, but obviously the wine doesn't suck either!

Nope, doesn't suck at all. Apparently there are rumors of bottle variation (bad corks, possibly) and other impediments to goodness but obviously ours was fine.
