It’s 2022. Here’s hoping it isn’t a replay of 2020 or 2021.
Wine Focus won’t be a replay, as we have a new theme for the year. We’ll be taking many of our cues from the calendar of National & International Wine Days, but since a few months during the year are a little sparse there will be some artistic license. Some months will also have choices, as there are more than 12 grapes in the world. You can check out a wine days calendar here:
https://unravelingwine.com/a-complete-l ... -holidays/ The 2022 Wine Focus calendar looks like this:
January – Tempranillo (Tempranillo Day is November 10, but we needed a January grape!)
February – Syrah (Syrah day is February 16, 2022), and Open that Bottle night is also in February, so ANY “that bottle” is OK!
March – Riesling (Riesling Day is March 13, 2022)
April – Malbec, which gets its day on April 17. That also happens to be Easter Sunday, so maybe the Easter Bunny will bring Malbec. International Cava day is also in April (April 23), so grab a bottle of Spanish bubbly!
May – Chardonnay (Chardonnay Day is May 26)
June – Rosé all month in observance of International Rosé Day on June 24, 2022
July – This would have been Shiraz month, but we already did Syrah, so we’re grabbing Chenin Blanc from June 18, and moving it to July!
August – Pinot Noir (Pinot Noir Day is August 18) & Albarino (August 1)
September – Grenache (Grenache Day is September 16) & Port (Port Wine Day is September 10) ***edit - September is too soon for Port…executive decision to move it to October!***
October – Orange Wines (Orange Wine Day is October 6) & Carignan & blends containing Carignan (Carignan Day is October 27) adding Port here!
November – Zinfandel (Zinfandel Day is November 16) & Gamay since Beaujolais Nouveau Day happens in November whether we like it or not!
December – Cabernet Franc & Meunier which go great together, and both have their days in December (Cab Franc on December 4 and Meunier on December 16)
