Cracked these two reds at dinner last night:
1. DryCreekVnyds Zin Heritage Vines/SonomaCnty (!4.5%; Vine age: 20+ yrs; 78% Zin/20% PetiteSirah/1% Primitivo/1% Carignane) 2014: Dark color w/ slight bricking; fairly strong spicy/raspberry/DCVlly Zin/bit blackberry slight dusty/OV some pencilly/vanilla/Am.oak some complex/aged nose; lightly tart rather spicy/raspberry/DCVlly Zin some vanilla/pencilly/Am.oak bit complex flavor w/ light slightly drying tannins; very long fairly spicy/raspberry/DCVlly Zin/blackberry fairly vanilla/pencilly/Am.oak slight dusty/OV some complex finish w/ light drying tannins;has developed nicely into a mature DCVllly Zin & probably at or slightly beyond its peak; starting to show its age a bit but still lots of pleasure. $12.00 (KK)

2. Foradori Teroldego IGT: Vignetti Delle Dolomiti (12%; www.ElisabettaForadori.com; L.12/15; LouisDressnerSlctns) Mezzolombardo/Trentino 2013: Very dark color w/ little bricking lovely very strong Tero/licorice/black cherry/black cherry cola bit pungent/graphite slight earthy/mineral/smokey light toasty/oak fairly complex nose; lightly tart strong pungent/licorice/Tero/black cherry cola/boysenberry some spicy some toasty/oak fairly structured rather smooth/lush rather complex flavor w/ light tannic bite; very long/lingering strong Tero/black cherry cola/licorice bit earthy/loamy/pungent light toasty/oak fairly complex finish w/ light bitey tannins; starting to show a bit of age on the palate but still absolutely delicious; a classic Foradori Teroldego.

1. The DryCreek Heritage is always one of my favorite Zins. A classic DCVlly Zin at a very attractive price (now about $22/btl). I was a bit surprised, though, how far along it was for a 7 yr old Zin.

2. Foradori: See....Louis/Dressner does import some wines that are not tainted w/ a strong natty character.
