by TomHill » Sun Nov 07, 2021 4:47 pm

We had friends over for apps Fri night & shared these two wines:
1. Carlisle The Derivative WW d/dx (13.9%; 47 % Semillon/37% Muscadelle/14% Colombard/2% Palomino; 355 cs) 2019: Light gold color; fairly strong Sem/figgy/green olive tapenade light floral/gardenias slight chalky/perfumed talc quite aromatic lovely nose; fairly tart/tangy rather floral/gardenias/waxy/Semillon/figgy/green olive tapenade light chalky/earthy slight muscatty/perfumed fairly rich flavor; very long/lingering tart/tangy fairly strong Sem/waxy/floral/gardenias//green olive tapenade slight chalky/mineral finish; lots of classic Semillon character w/o the oak of Oz versions; should put on weight and get very interesting over the next 5-10 yrs; very fairly priced at $26.00

2. DryCreekVnyd Zin OldVine DryCreekVlly/SonomaCnty (14.5%; 19% PetiteSirah/3% Carignane; 1-2 tons/acre; 15 mo.in Fr/Hungarian/Am. oak; Avg vine age: 100+ yrs; Hevstd: Sept 12 & 30; 3 days cold soak; 12-16 days maceration; DryFarmed/HeadPruned) 2019: Very dark color; very strong perfumed raspberry/DCVlly Zin/very spicy rather dusty/OV strong vanilla/Am.oak fairly complex nose; bit soft rather rich/mouthfilling/lush very strong raspberry/blackberry/Zin/boysenberry/ripe fairly dusty/OV strong vanilla/oak bit complex flavor w/ ample bit tangy tannins; very long/lingering very strong raspberry/blackberry/very spicy/classic DCVlly Zin finish w/ amply tannins; a lovely OV Zin of the level of the Carlisle SonomaCnty or Bedrock OV but not quite the same depth; needs 2-6 yrs of age. $nc (SR)/$38.00

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. Carlisle: The latest Carlisles arrived last week & couldn't wait to try the latest Derivative. It's another winner and should age very well.
________________
2. DryCreek: Another lovely DryCreekVnyd Zin. The OV Zin used to carry a pretty heavy hit of oak, but over the last few yrs, they have tamed the oak down a bit. DCVnyd has a very good tableau of Zins but the Sommers & Beeson still remain my favorites.
