WTN: The Tantalus Field, Part II

by David M. Bueker » Tue Oct 26, 2021 7:37 pm

  • 2016 Tantalus Vineyards Blanc de Blancs - Canada, British Columbia, Okanagan Valley, Okanagan Valley VQA (10/26/2021)
Lobster rolls in Maine calls for bubbly. We brought our last bottle of the Tantalus BdB with us, and it matched the moment. Still very youthful (wish I had more so I could follow over several years), the lemon and green apple fruit played counterpoint to the buttery richness of the lobster rolls. Sipping on a glass after dinner, and there was more body than apparent with the rich food. This seems to have a promising future. Hopefully they get US distribution some day. Good value for about $25.

I presume you're on speaking terms with their rieslings as well?

Yes. We enjoyed their Rieslings when we visited in 2019. We just had limited luggage space.

Good to see a note on a Tantalus sparkling here. I have tried a couple of their sparkling wines, but felt the dosage was a little high, leading to a bit of a sweet and sour note. Your didn't seem to have this issue, so maybe it was a vintage thing.

This did not show sweet at all.
