WTN: EdmundsStJohn Bebame '08...(short/boring)

Opened it as a throw-away red last night. Didn't have to throw it away, though:
1. EdmundsStJohn Bebame Red ElDroradoCnty (13%; 65% CabFranc/35% GamayNoir) AH Wines/FairPlay 2008: Med.light some browning color; rather herbal/CF/some old Loire fairly cedary/pencilly/oldRed some fragrant/spicy/cinnamon ElD/earthy/mushroomy some aged/very interesting nose; fairly tart rather earthy/herbal/CF/oldLoire bit spicy/cinnamon some ElD/mushroomy rather pencilly/cedary fairly complex bit dried-out flavor w/ light gentle tannins; very long rather herbal/CF/oldLoire/earthy some cedary/pencilly/oldRed some ElD/loamy/mushroomy bit tired fairly complex finish w/ light gentle tannins; somewhat on the downside but in much better shape than it had any right to be; much like an old Loire CF; only slightly tired but not at all dried out & still offers up pleasure.

1. I don't remember the story behind this wine, but I seem to re3call Steve made it as a special for his distributor in Wash.
Bttld under screwtop, I was expecting it to be totally dead & gone. It was not & still offered up some pleasure. They say out on the InterNet that this SteveEdmunds guy knows something about making wine that ages well...but it's gotta be fake news.
The next morning, it was pretty much tired & dried out & a dark murky brown.

Was this actually labeled as Edmunds St John? My memory is that it wasn't. Remember it as an enjoyable light wine, like you I wouldn't have thought it that ageable. You never know till you try!

Nope, Dale. Not labeled as an EdStJohn wine. But I got it directly from Steve.
I believe it was a special wine he made for his WA or OR distributor.

I knew he made it, just was curious that it was listed as ESJ.

the Bebamé wines were made by me as a consultant to the AHA wine company; 2008 was first year, 2016 was last. The Cab Franc portion, after 2010, came mostly from plantings undertaken in 2007 at Barsotti Ranch. After 2012 the Gamay portion diminished, as the wine came more into focus, and the resulting blend developed more to the liking of the AHA partners.
