Tried these two Heinrich Mayr wines over the weekwend:
1. Heinrich Mayr Nusserhof Bl.te.le VinoBianco (100% Blatterle; 11.5%; LouisDresner; www.fws.it/en/nusserhof/) H.Mayr/Bozen/AltoAdige NV (L2019): Med.gold color; light resiny/phenolic some earthy/mineral bit floral/pungent/zennias/very marigolds rather musky/herbal slight nutty/oxidative quite exotic/interesting nose; bit soft/rich/lush slight ViniMacerati/resiny strong floral/pungent/very marigolds/musky some Kansas hay mow very unusual/exotic rather complex flavor; very long/lingering musky/floral/pungent/very marigolds very slight VM/phenolic rather Kansas hay mow quite complex finish; a very exotic/complex very interesting white a bit like a herbal DauvBlanc; has some real potential to mature more. $29.50 (KK)

Heinrich Mayr Nusserhof Ty....O VinoRosso (13%; 100% Tyroldego/Teroldego; LouisDresner) H.Mayr/Bozen/AltoAdige NV (L2014): Very dark/near black color; very strong plummy/licorice/black cherry/Tero some earthy/dusty/bit loamy rather complex very interesting nose; rather tart/tangy rather earthy/loamy/bit rustic very strong black cherry/licorice/plummy/blackberry quite complex rather exotic flavor w/ ample rough tannins; very long/lingering somewhat earthy/loamy/rustic strong black cherry/licorice/plummy rather complex finish w/ ample chewey tannins; can benefit from another 4-8 yrs; a rather earthy/dusty/loamy very exotic expression of Teroldego; a bit on the pricey side for what it is, but not outrageously so. $57.00 (KK)

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. Nusserhof is an estate located right in the heart of Bolzano. They focus on making wines from indigenous varieties using natural winemaking techniques (hence the Louis/Dressner import). Yet they have no hints of any natty character in them, both clean & well-made.
The labels only hint of the two varieties used. There is apparently some legal issue that the varieties are not permitted in their DOC, though I believe they are permitted. On their WebSite, the pics of the two wines show the variety spelled out in their entirety. So don't really know the story here.
The color and the slight resiny character this wine showed suggest it might be a skin-contact/ViniMacerati, but can find no information that it actually is.
Blatterle is a white variety indigenous to the AltoAdige, originating in the Isarco Vlly, primary grown around the commune of Bolzano. Mayr appears to be the only producer there working with this grape. It is on the verge of extinction, which is a shame because I liked this wine quite a lot. I would be very interested in what kind of wine it could make in Calif or OR. Oughta be planted all up & down the Coast of Calif.
The Tyroldego is a very unusual expression of Teroldego. It lack the high-toned/polished character of a Foradori & not in her league, but still a very interesting if rustic rendition of that grape.
They also have a Mayr Schiava at Koko that I must try this weekend.
