Finger Lakes syrah?

by Jenise » Wed Sep 29, 2021 7:46 pm

Was quite surprised to just read a wine recommendation for "a great cool-climate syrah from the Finger Lakes or Northern Rhone" to pair with a lamb dish. Mind you, I don't follow recommendations, it's just that in my one short visit to the Finger Lakes I don't recall seeing or tasting any syrahs, not one. Just Cab Franc, Pinot Noir and some hybrids.

Is syrah a 'thing' there now?

agree, weird rec. It's grown, but a tiny fraction of a not very big pool. If you were in a wine store you'd be more likely to find CA Nebbiolo or Burgundy Sauvignon Blanc.

Yeah, and it was from some somm in Food & Wine Magazine who had nothing to gain as he wasn't naming producers or speaking to his own list.

Anyway, thanks guys, glad to know I'm not losing my mind. :)

wow, being in a national mainstream pub like F&W makes it even weirder.
