WTN: Two Darren Delmore Reds....(short/boring)

by TomHill » Mon Sep 27, 2021 5:01 pm

Had these two wines of Darren Delmore over the last few days:
1. Delmore PinotNoir CentralCoast (13%; Wild Frmtd; U; www.DarrenDelmore.com) PasoRobles 2020: Med.light color; quite fragrant cherry/black cherry/PN/bit herbal/spicy slight cold-climate/peppery some toasty/pencilly/Fr.oak quite attractive nose; fairly tart/tangy rather CentralCoast PN/cherry/black cherry/herbal lightweight bit earthy/Burgundian bit complex flavor w/ light tangy tannins; fairly long herbal/earthy rather cherry/black cherry/spicy/lightish some toasty/pencilly/Fr.oak finish w/ light tangy tannins; reminds some of the Calera CC PN, a bit of a lighter EdnaVlly PN; quite a pretty expression of CC PN, though not particularly a keeper & on the lightish side. $25.00 (vDD)

2. Delmore Syrah StoloVnyd/Cambria/CentralCoast (13%; 2 brls; U) PasoRobles: Very dark/near black color; rather intenseblackberry/Syrah/blueberry/very spicy some c-c/black pepper bit w-c/peppery light toasty/oak rather NRhonish/floral fairly complex quite interesting nose; quite tart/tangy/bit metallic strong blackberry/Syrah/blueberry/very spicy strong c-c/peppery/w-c light toasty/oak rather rugged/angular/structured flavor w/ ample chewey tannins; very long/lingering quite tart/tangy very strong blueberry/blackberry/Syrah/spicy fairly c-c/peppery/w-c some NRhonish/bit floral some complex finish w/ ample rugged tannins; a very distinct cold-climate Syrah very structured & rather rugged that needs 3-8 yrs of age; a very interesting atypical Calif Syrah.
$nc (vDD)

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. DarrenDelmore is the National Marketing Director for TablasCreekVnyds. He makes a bit of his own wine on the side there at TCV. The Syrah grapes come from the StoloFamilyVnyd way out near Cambria & is one of the coldest Syrah vnyds in all Calif. I believe Darren said this was the last year he was going to be able to get Stolo grapes.
Darren was in town for SantaFe Wine&Chile Fiesta last week & we got together with him out on Susan's portal Thurs evening over apps & pizza and tasted a bunch of older TablasCreek wines.

Always appreciate the notes on DD and TC, Tom. All of my DD Stolo Syrahs are 2017 and 2018. Plenty of DD on board for now. PNs are 2017, 2018, 2019.

Curious as to the older TC wines you tasted. What varietals/wines impressed you as having the most staying power? Other thoughts?

Hold tight, Pat. Will post my notes as soon as I get to them
