Baby back ribs, potato salad, and the 2018 Produttori del Barbaresco Langhe Nebbiolo.. I think my expectations were a bit high after the “Baby Barolo” Cavalotto last week. This has red cherry fruit, a little tar, low acids, light tannins. More of a glou-glou wine (which actually what you expect in a Langhe Neb), B/B-
Crab cakes, spinach, rice, and the 2010 Boulay “Comtesse” Sancerre. I’ve had a bit of variation in these, this is a tad more advanced than others, but still with lively acids, good citrus, a bit of chalk. A little bit of almond nuttiness. B/B+
Some confusion about a dinner invite, found myself without a plan, but thawed some pot roast to have with rice and brussels sprouts. Time to compare 2 Brun cru Bojo
2005 JP Brun Terres Dorees Fleurie
Fresh, elegant, black cherry with sandalwood and herbs. Totally a pointe. A-
2009 JP Brun Terres Dorees Morgon
Ripe fruit but not heavy (12% abv in ‘09!), juicy, with mocha notes over rich red cherry fruit. B+/A-
Now that I knew when I was invited, dinner on friends’ deck. Charcuterie, grilled swordfish, roast potatoes, green beans
2020 Edmunds St John Bone Jolly Gamay Rose
Rounderfleshier version of this, ripe red plum and cherry, does well with swordfish. B
2011 Ch. Montelena Chardonnay
Some clear oak notes, green apple, melon, but more about structure than fruit at moment. B/B-
.
2005 B. Giacosa Arneis Roero
Fleshier than I expected, rich and a little sweet but with a nice mineral core. B+
Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C
drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice.Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.
