WTN: Burrowing Bernard

From over the past week:

2019 Burrowing Owl Chardonnay Okanagan Valley VQA
From a restaurant list in Vancouver. California-esque: tropical with noticeable toasted oak and almost off-dry at room temp. I added ice from the wine bucket to my glass to super-chill some spine into it. This bears no resemblance to the Bill Dyer years of this winery.

2014 Domaine Armelle et Bernard Rion Meursault Chardonnay
Jeepers, I own the only bottle of this in the CT universe! Or did. Consumed to celebrate the departure of friends who are moving to France; I purchased this on our last trip to Beaune. Since Rion is not known for being shy with oak, was pleased to find only modest traces of wood along with notes of green pineapple and pear. Shows well right now.

B Owl is a miss these days..pity.

It's a style thing. In other more BC-specific fora I read glowing reports about BO these days, enough to cause me to choose this off a wine list to find out. I posted this TN there and got some backlash--"it's one of BC's best wineries!!!"--from the kind of people who don't get that candied fruit and high toast just aren't for everyone.

As it happens BO isn't what it used to be. I opened a bottle of 2015 Cab Franc last night - and was underwhelmed.

Was it also the 'bigger is better' style or is there no consistency between the whites and the reds?

It definitely falls into the 'look at me I'm so ripe' class.

Exactly, it seems to be in a bigger is better mode, But I do think that still sells for a lot of people. Many other BC wineries have a similar mantra, as do those in other regions.
