  • 2019 Hofgut Falkenstein Niedermenniger Herrenberg Riesling Kabinett feinherb #15 - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer (8/30/2021)
Limesicle with a green herb streak, this is on the high end of Feinherb, but all the more drinkable because of it. Overall this is slurpable if not profound. It’s a gracious partner to both Indian and Thai food. It does what a wine is supposed to do.

Is it a paragon of vinous virtue? No. Is it good and well worth its modest cost? Yes.

Is this you trolling the Berserker Falkenstein Fanbois? Because those expectations seem a bit out of whack to me and I'm not sure why anyone would expect this to be profound or a paragon of vinous virtue.

That said, are you commenting on the 2019 version compared to previous vintages that you have liked better? I haven't tasted the 2019, but I tend to get a lot of pleasure from this wine in the easy-to-open-and-be-refreshed-and-relax kind of way.

I just followed the cellartracker link and see that other notes there were indeed a lot more excited about the wine! Although they were all from several months ago. I wonder if the vivid young fruit has started to calm down a bit, thereby also calming visceral reactions.

There might be a bit of trolling going on. ;)

Beyond that, while I have had some amazing 2019 German Rieslings, I have also had a number that are impressive for their scale rather than their style. It’s a very good vintage, but in no way the VOTC that some are claiming.

Back to the wine itself, it’s very good, but does not have the “spark” the Onkel Peter bottling had to my taste. That’s of course fine, as it’s very rare that a producer captures magic in all their bottlings of a given vintage.

And I don’t think it closing down/shedding fruit yet.

That's certainly fair. I rarely get around to buying too many different bottlings in any given vintage, so my views are more general.
