WTN: Not my first Rodez-o

  • NV Eric Rodez Champagne Grand Cru Cuvée des Grands Vintages - France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru (8/14/2021)
    November 2017 disgorgement

At first blush this feels almost insubstantial. It’s pleasant enough, but just that. Warm up a bit from fridge temperature, and things start to change. It builds from the finish, there’s more depth, a vinous, and saline base. The warmer it gets the more it fills out. It never shows overt fruit, just dashes of apple and orange that support all the lead character of the wine. It’s frankly hard to describe this, but Laura, in her best wine critic voice said “this doesn’t suck!”

p.s. wonderful match with our gougeres made with 5 year old Gouda

How often does one see a disgorgement date on the back label? Last night a Tattinger Brut Reserve did not have one.

Very often with the growers. Rarely if ever with the big houses, though Krug has a code that you can use with an app to get some info.
