Question for the Riesling Nerds: Meulenhof

by Ryan M » Sat Aug 14, 2021 10:54 am

I'm looking to stock up on 2019 Germany, and my favorite brick and mortar shop has the Meulenhof Erdener Treppchen Riesling Auslese 2019. For an estate that's been around since the 14th century, it seems to fly under the radar, not a lot of press out there. Anyone have some experience with them? I'm assuming an Auslese from a vintage like 2019 will have a few decades in the tank?

I have decades of experience with Meulenhof. They fly under the radar for a couple of reasons, the biggest being that their wines are very sweet compared to current fashion. They do age well though. I am still holding some 2001s which have aged very gracefully.

I like the estate, and still buy from time to time.

Thanks David! The reviews for some of their 2001s on CT say that those are still drinking young, so that bodes well.
