WTN: CowanCllrs Syrah BennettVlly '12....(short/boring)

by TomHill » Tue Aug 10, 2021 1:38 pm

Casting about for something to drink last night, I came upon:
1. CowanCllrs Syrah BennettVlly/SonomaCnty (14.1%; http://www.CowanCellars.com) SantaRosa 2012: Very dark color w/ slight bricking; very strong spicy/blackberry/Syrah/blueberry quite cold-climate/black pepper light pencilly/oak light Rhonish/roasted classiv BV Syrah fairly complex nose; some tart very strong blackberry/Syrah/very spicy/blueberry some c-c/peppery light toasty/oak bit Rhonish/roasted/pungent/smokey slight earthy fairly complex flavor w/ light fairly smooth tannins; very long/lingering bit tart/tangy fairly classic BV/c-c/peppery some roasted/pungent light pencilly/oak strong spicy/blackberry/Syrah complex finish w/ light smooth tannins; a pretty classic BV Syrah that resembles some to old CraneCanyons but a bit more Rhonish & less Pinotish; tannins are fully resolved & probably pretty much at its peak or maybe a bit beyond; no signs of drying out or tired; a lovely expression of BV Syrah.

1. Looks like FloridaJim no longer has this Domaine. This Syrah was pretty much what I expected, perhaps a bit better. A lovely classic BV Syrah. Good job, FloridaJim.

Thanks Tom. I don't have the '12, but still have several bottles of the 2015 Cowan BV Syrah, as well as one of the 2011, which was vineyard designated. Always thought Syrah was Jim's best wine.
