Tried this last night:
1. Carlisle Syrah Calif Novy/Carlisle HdR Cuvee (16.2%; Page-Nord Vnyd/NapaVlly + Rosella'sVnyd/SLH + RayTeldeschi Ranch/DryCreekVlly; 2002 HdR Auction; 10 cs) 2001: Very dark color w/ slight browning; strong blackberry/black cherry/Syrah/boysenberry rather spicy/peppery some cedary/pencilly/oak bit pencilly/oldRed slight Rhonish/roasted/smokey rather complex still youthful nose; soft some blackberry/Syrah/ripe/boysenberry/licorice some Rhonish/roasted bit pencilly/oldRed some smokey/cedary/oak bit tired fairly complex flavor w/ light smooth/gentle tannins; very long/lingering bit hot/alcoholic fairly strong blackberry/boysenberry/Syrah/ripe/licorice bit pencilly/cedary/oldRed fairly complex finish w/ light smooth tannins; still has plenty of Syrah fruit but starting to dry out slightly but in amazing shape for a 20 yr old very ripe Syrah; would've been better 4-8 yrs ago but still pretty tasty & remarkably youthful. $nc (MT)

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. This is a wine given me by MitchTallen some 10-15 yrs ago when I visited him in Columbus/OH. Alas, the btl he gave me was badly corked. When I posted my TN way back then, lo&behold, a replacement btl showed up on my doorstep.
So I just now got around to cracking it open. I had very low expectations for it, but it was far better than it had any right to be. Beyound its peak, but still darned good.
