Lockdown Wine #111. And we are back to strict stay-at-home orders to deal with an imminent Delta surge.
Decanted about 2 hours. Rather dark. Mostly dark fruit on the nose at first. Later, some roast meat mixed in with some florals. Rather attractive. Given the color, I was expecting something pretty extracted. But this wine is quite delicate. Very dry. Dried fruit, slightly meaty. Pretty austere. Soft tannins and gentle acidity. I wish it wasn't so dry. Improves with food, though.
Picking up some weight after 2.5 hours in the glass. A slight improvement in the fruit as well, making it not quite so austere. More complexity as well. Strangely, soy sauce. Good length.
I'm on the fence about the potential of this. It doesn't feel closed to me so I don't think there's much more improvement to expect from ageing. But then again, it did improve up to 3 hours after opening. The Cuvée Alexandrine is a special selection of millenrandaged grapes from all the vineyards of their 3.5 hectares, and made only in the best years. The tiny berries certainly delivered the color extraction, but it doesn't show in the weight and concentration of the wine.
