WTN: Hirsch, Hirsch now, voices carry

Ultimately the one major issue is that this wine costs $80. Given the competition is $40-$50 I could not stay on the list. It’s an issue for every wine from Hirsch Vineyards, and the wines other producers make from their fruit.

  • 2014 Hirsch Vineyards Chardonnay - USA, California, Sonoma County, Fort Ross - Seaview (6/28/2021)
See my 2018 note. This has barely budged in three years.

Bright, focused, pear and citrus fruit dominated this impeccably crafted wine. Each sip woke up my palate. Stylistically it was about mid way between the lean Ceritas and richer, but still lively Ramey mold. Drink now or over the next several years.

And I'm reading this on a Tuesday--appropriate.

Maybe I'm not paying enough attention but I don't see that many Hirsches around these days. I do recall when Hirsch fruit--there wasn't a winery yet, only fruit made by others--was so highly sought after that I flew up to San Francisco to attend an offline to which people only brought Hirsch. I took a Siduri Hirsch pinot.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

The Hirsch fruit and the Hirsch wines are both very good. I do not see the qualitative gap to command the price premium.

Which is why I dropped off the Hirsch list.
