Netscape Forum Poll: Favorite fortified wine

by Robin Garr » Mon Feb 19, 2007 12:38 pm

Spring is approaching in the Northern Hemisphere, but chances are that most of us still have our share of cold, blustery evenings to go yet. Before winter runs out, we might as well enjoy the season for fortified wines. What's your favorite: Port, Madeira, Sherry or something else? Cast your vote and check the totals in our CompuServe/Netscape WineLovers Community poll!

For drinking purposes, I prefer LBV Port or Vintage Port. Usually LBV since the pricing is so much better. But a Vintage bottle once in awhile also.

But as far as consumption goes, I use more Marsala (for cooking purposes).

Madeira here. Great drinking and interesting history to boot.

I voted Madeira for the same reasons as Bob (and it is by far the most inexpensive way to drink wines from the 19th Century), but I probably drink more Vintage Port. I love 'em both.

Prost!

Robin,

Though Madeira is a lovely thing, I drink it less often than I would like. What I do drink regularly is Liqueur Muscat from Rutherglen, Victoria.

Great stuff can be had for $15-$20 retail per 375ml.

Morris Old Premium Liqueur Muscat or Tokay. Orgasmic! And available! (compared to VP or LBV which is expensive in this part of the world).
