WTN: Black Chickens, Moobs and other things

2019 The Other Guys Chardonnay Moobuzz Monterey
A Grocery Outlet bargain my brother poured last night (no idea of actual price, but obviously not more than $10). They'll be going back today to load up every last bottle in stock. This doesn't have the full bodied character of Napa or the ripeness of Sonoma and shows no oak, rather it's a lighter white-fruit chardonnay with an ethereal perfumed nose that seemed to bring a new sense of place to Monterey fruit. Balanced and very, very attractive. And one last thing: I could not help, sitting there with Bob, Chris and his husband John, but comment on the hilarity of dining with three older gentlemen and drinking a wine whose name is almost 'Moobs'.

2015 Robert Biale Zinfandel Black Chicken Oak Knoll District
Lovely nose and acceptable zinnish flavors on the palate but while understanding that Biale zins are claret-style zins, this seemed a tad light in palate weight. So while just fine with Carolina style barbecue chicken, not a memorable bottle.

2017 Navarro Vineyards Rosé of Pinot Noir Anderson Valley
My last bottle of a case purchased three years ago, and the best. Not mature in any way, just more resonance with every sip than the bottles that came before it. Rose petals and honey, yet dry.

2017 Massican Gemina California White Blend
Light, refreshing and surprisingly dry for a pinot-grigio majority blend. Just, somehow, not very more-ish. Needed mild white fish for a pairing, not the crab salad I served it with.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

That’s exactly how I feel about the Massican Gemina. I much prefer the Annia.

I've had it in a previous vintage (though I didn't remember that when I bought this one). Wasn't any more impressed back then. Just not much There there for $30+.

Pinot Grigio - 'nuff said.

Have you tried the Annia? The 2019 is amazing.

PG isn't my favorite thing but I've had some great PGs; this just wasn't one and I expected a lot more from Massican. No, haven't seen the Annia. It's a blend of what?

Annia is Tocai Friuliano, Ribolla Gialla and a little bit (5% or so) of Hyde Vineyard Chardonnay.
