The wine is a lovely light gold in color. The aroma was very shy at first but after five minutes in the glass opened up. Peony and lilac dominate the aromas, with a backdrop of classic mature riesling nuances of citrus and tropical fruits and a whiff of road tar. Pruem's wines often have a smell and taste of SO2 when first released. There was none of that in this wine. In the mouth there are classic mature Mosel flavors. The striking thing is the perfect balance of flavors, acidity, and sweetness. It's all an integrated whole--nothing sticks out. The finish lasts several minutes. This wine is a joy to drink, and probably will be for several years to come. I only have one bottle left--it's always been so good that I couldn't resist opening one every now and then. Double Curly.

Prüm outperformed the vintage in 1999.
