WTN: 2016 C&G Lessona Pizzaguerra: The no fuss pleasure

by Rahsaan » Fri Jun 11, 2021 8:55 pm

In the context of so many of my finicky wines that require perfect timing and preparation, it's nice to have options that are easy to open at the last minute.

This spring, whenever I got home minutes before dinner on the weekend and wanted something nice with the meal, it was great to have bottles of 2016 Colombera & Garella Lessona Pizzaguerra to open.

Always a delightful drink of dark floral flavors and crisp juicy structure, with just enough depth to roll around the tongue and meld well with so many different foods. Nothing to ponder after dinner, but for the moments of conviviality and enjoyment at the table, it filled a welcome niche for me.

You mean grapes? 95% Nebbiolo and 5% Vespolina. Here's the CSW write-up:

Thanks. I used to buy the Sella Lessona with regularity, but haven't seen lately. Will have to try this producer.

Cristiano Garella managed Sella for several years (about 10-15 years ago) before branching out to consult and then start this venture with his partner Giacomo Colombera. (For those who follow the Alte Piemonte goings on, Cristiano is also the co-owner of Le Pianelle).
