WTM: Hidden Agenda Chenin Blanc 2005

by Bruce Hayes » Sun Feb 18, 2007 8:39 pm

From Hillen Valley Winery, Stellenboch.

A blend of 10 per cent Viognier and four per cent Sauvignon Blanc.

Medium golden color in the glass.

Toasty nose, with a hint of smoke.

Creamy, rich, with intense and rich lemon and limes, peppery and tangy.

A fairly long, mouthwatering, lime-tinged finish.

Matched very well with a roast pork.

Screwcap closure.

Purchased at $14.95 (Canadian).

Bruce, as usual you are ahead of me. I just read the write-up on this one on Vintages' website and was planning to try one on my next shopping trip. Sounds worth it to me.

Thanks.

Thanks for note. Hidden Valley winery makes especially fine Pinotage, cab and shiraz and they are currently expanding, buiding a new winery etc etc near Ernie Els vineyard-good terroir indeed.
If you really want to taste the best of Cape chenin,I do strongly recommend the Rudera Robusto, especially the 2005 vintage.Teddy Hall is a master of this varietal, and although the Rudera is made in small quantities and hence commands quite a high price,it is worth it.
If you cannot get this wine in Canada, then look out for his Rudera chenin.
