WT4Nights: Domaine Barat Chablis, Chablis

by Pat G » Sun May 16, 2021 4:43 pm

2015 AOC Chablis.

Yellow gold; rim consistent with age. Aromas are white fruit and white flower dominant. A hint of cinnamon and nutmeg. On the palate, dust, slate, stoniness and just a touch of eucalyptus emerge. Clearly linear texture, medium plus finish. Medium plus acidity which lingered for days. Impression: balanced, complex, neither intense nor extracted (nor oaky, Jenise). We've enjoyed a series of basic AOC Chablis over the years and find the wines to be a very good value. Screwcap, but I replace that with a VacuVin cap. Seems to enhance staying power. Your mileage may vary.

We love chablis. And because it's chablis I'd have never questioned the oak (the way I might with many Californians), just for the record. Sounds good. I'm impressed that the acidity held up over four nights considering the ripe vintage.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
