WTN: ESJ Syrah (‘nuff said)

Normally I am prepared to wait 15 years before drinking an ESJ Syrah, but I grabbed this, and just said what the heck. Wow, am I glad I did. This was aiming to please from the first sip, and it took immense restraint to not blow through the whole bottle. There’s plenty of fruit, and still some tannic backbone, so no worries about holding, but please do drink one if you have any. It’s lovely now.

I got around to opening one of these tonight and I can confirm David's impressions. Obviously there is plenty more life in this wine, but tonight it was a delicious balanced ESJ syrah, with the lovely combo of ripe savory notes and freshness. The texture is integrating nicely and is pleasant to drink, but of course no rush.

It was a perfect match with pizza topped with roasted yellow oyster mushrooms, pecorino toscano, basil and the first fresh tomato sauce of the season.
