I had the good fortune to attend a tasting and lunch at Bouchard Pere et Fils in Beaune last week. The highlight for me were the Fevre wines.
Champs Royaux
A bad way to start. While this is a negoce wine at a very entry level price, there is absolutely Zero Chablis character and not even a hint of acid. In past years, this has been a very good cheap Chablis.
Domaine William Fevre Chablis
Here we go. Classic granny smith apple, cirtus, lead pipe, flinty mineral. MUCH better than the Champs Royaux.
Chablis Montmains 1er Cru
Softer, less amplified and more elegant -Juicy yellow apple, fine texture and good mineral. Delicious.
Chablis Vaillons 1er Cru
Apple, tropical fruit, lime, chalky, gritty mineral, small acid footprint and a broader mouthfeel. Very good.
Chablis 'Fourchaume" Vaulorent 1er Cru
Sweeter pineapple fruit, lead pencil, graphite, wet rocks, rich texture, but with outstanding balance.
Chablis Bougros "Cote de Bourguerots" Grand Cru
Bigger and more giving, fatter almost Meursault textured. Stone fruit, pineapple, honey, showy in a very 'un-showy' vintage.
Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru
Beautiful white peach, tart green apple, sea salt and crushed oyster shell mineral. Moon rocks? Suberb texture and finish. A VERY good wine.
Prost!
