WTN: Two CowanCllrs Whites....(short/boring)

by TomHill » Thu Apr 29, 2021 2:23 pm

Tried these to wines of FloridaJim's over the last few days:
1. CowanCllrs SauvBlanc LakeCnty (12.7%) 2012: Med.golden color; strong floral/SB/lightly herbal slight earthy fairly fragrant classic LakeCnty SB bit rustic nose; quite tart/tangy/lemony fairly earthy/stony/chalky/mineral strong SB/floral/slight herbal/lemony bit rustic flavor; long lightly floral/SB/melony/lemony/herbal bit rustic/earthy/chalky finish; a fairly rustic/earthy fairly typical LakeCnty SB a bit on the coarse side but still holding together well; no signs of oxidation or going round the bend.

2. CowanCllrs ISA LakeCnty (12.5%; skin-frmtd WW) 2011: Deep golden/burnished bronze color; lovely honeyed/honeysuckle/honey grahams bit cedary very light herbal/SB light resiny/ViniMacerati/skin-contact/phenolic quite complex nose; some tart/tangy quite honeyed/honeycomb/honey grahams/graham crackers some resiny/phenolic/VM slight herbal/SB bit earthy quite savory very complex flavor w/ very slight tannic bite; very long/lingering bit tart/tangy fairly rich/savory slight resiny/VM strong honeycomb/honey graham rather complex beautiful finish; a beautiful very aromatic fully-mature VM; have no idea how much further out this will go.

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. ISA: Jim made this from LakeCnty SauvBlanc as I recall. It has really matured into a beautiful quite savory white w/ no signs of oxidation and only light VM/phenolic character and only a very light tannic bite. Maybe the best skin-contact/VM mature wine that I can recall w/ only a Ryme His Vermentino coming close. Beautiful wine.

Tom, your note sent me searching for my notes on Jim's ISA. Mine were '10s: "Baked apple, peach, chestnut, rich red-wine like body, masculine, tiny suggestion of oxidation or is it, someone mentions gewürztraminer and I can see why...." Really something, and the opening wine at a geek event where 20 wines would follow but this would be the one everyone talked about all night. Never had anything like it since.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
