WTN: Two New Ridges....(short/boring)

by TomHill » Wed Apr 28, 2021 3:49 pm

My latest ATP shipment arrived last weekend, so tried:
1. Ridge Carignane GonsalvesVnyd/ContraCostaCnty (100% Carignane; 13.7%; 54 brls; bttld 11/20; Plntd: 1880's; Drk: 10/20-10/24-10/26: EB) 2019: Med.dark color; lovely very fragrant cherry/black cherry/Carignane almost floral/lilacs some ContraCosta/earthy/mushroom/loamy very light vanilla/oak very pretty nose; soft rather rich/lush/bit soupy strong cherry/black cherry/Carignane fairly earthy/loamy/CC mushroomy light Ridge oakquite attractive flavor w/ light soft tannins; very long cherry/black cherry/Carignane strong CC/loamy/mushroomy/earthy bit Ridge oak finish w/ light soft tannins; quite a pretty/easy-drinking Carignane that speaks strongly of CCCnty; reminds some of Draper's early Evangelho Mataros; lacks the brightness & the structure of the Buchagnani Carignanes. $30.60 (ATP)
______________
2. Ridge Rockpile BotticelliVnyd/Rockpile/SonomaCnty (71% Zin/29% PetiteSirah; 14.3%; 58 brls; bttld Jan 2021; Drk: 12/20-12/25-12/26: JO) 2019: Med.dark color; strong blackberry/raspberry/DCV Zin/very spicy light earthy/mineral light Ridge oak bit complex lovely nose; quite tart/tangy strong blackberry/raspberry/DCV Zin/very spicy some structured light vanilla/Am.oak light mineral/earthy fairly bright DCV Zin flavor w/ modest tangy tannins; very long/lingering bright blackberry/raspberry/very spicy/DCV Zin slight earthy light Am.oak/vanilla bit complex finish w/ modest tannins; speaks strongly of DCV/raspberry Zin; reminds a lot of the '19 EastBench Zin but a bit leaner & more structured/tannic. $32.40 (ATP)

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. Not generally a big fan of the Ridge Carignanes, but I liked this new Carignane quite a bit. The last few Buchagnanis have also been quite good.
This is the first Ridge Rockpile Zin. I liked it quite a lot but was a bit disappointed. Almost all the Rockpiles, from various producers, I've had in the past have been pretty big/structured Zins much like those Zins from MonteRosso vnyd. This was on the lighter side than I was expecting for a Rockpile.
