Last night was not a good night on the natural wine scene:
1. hoot Amber WhiteDryWine Greece (12%; Organic grapes; skin-contact Chard; eklektikon Slctns/Willimgton/DE) GeorgasFamily/Spata/Greece NV: Med.gold color w/ lots of bubbles that dissapate; rather resiny/skin-contact/ViniMacerati earthy some mousey/natty/hantavirus bit H2S/rotten eggs little fruit nose; soft quite sour rather natty/mousey/hantavirus/earthy some resiny/skin-contact little fruit flavor; med.long quite natty/hantavirus/mousey/earthy some resiny/VM finish w/ a mousey aftertaste that ruins it in the mouth & leaves a fould taste that even CoorsLite cannot irradicate; an altogether unpleasant natty wine that's hard to choke down. $26.50/1.5 litre plastic pouch

LaClarine Syrah "sumu kaw" Vnyd SierraFoothills RW ( 12.4%; www.LaClarineFarm.com) Somerset 2011: Med.color w/ considerable browning; very earthy/loamy/mushroomy bit ozone/carbon arc/WWII beacon very little fruit some natty/unpleasant bit tired/oxidized some oaked nose; soft quite sour rather natty/unclean little fruit quite earthy/loamy/mushroomy slight metallic/burning metal/ozone flavor w/ ample drying/astringent tannins; very long quite sour/metallic/sharp/burning metal/piercing rather natty/hantavirus finish w/ bitter/astringent tannins; no fruit left to speak of; a natural wine gone totally South.

1. The hoot Amber was a new arrival at Kokomans that I just had to try because of the cute plastic pouch. I should have known better....I'm sometimes a slow learner. But I continue to try natural wines because sometimes they can be quite interesting. But you just have to kiss a lot of frogs to find that prince....croak.
