WTN: Trapiche "Broquel" Malbec 2004

by Bruce Hayes » Sat Feb 17, 2007 8:21 pm

Mendoza.

Deep purple in the glass.

Soft, plush and lightly creamy in the mouth, plummy, cherries, milk chocolate, lightly spicy. Overall, rather simple, flat and unexciting.

A slight bitterness toward the end intensifies with time and the entire wine shuts down, showing moderate tannins.

With even more time, the wine "returns", once again showing creaminess, milk chocolate and cherry. Very laid back, some might even say simple. I guess I prefer my Malbec to have a bit more structure, guts and fruit.

Purchased at $14.95 (Canadian).

Many thanks, Bruce. I always love reading your notes since most of these are wines that are equally available to me.

It doesn't sound like quite my style either ... but then again, I am an old-school Pinotage guy.

Thanks for the interest Paul.

FYI: I also bought:
Twin Island SB 2006
Dr. L. Riesling 2005
Hidden Valley "Agenda" Chenin Blanc 2005 (which also has some Viognier and SB in the blend)
