WTN: Pride Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2011

Lockdown Wine #90. Very dark and youthful looking. Opaque. Surprisingly soft. Lots of sediment. Plenty of sweet spice. Black berries and a bit of chocolate. Still all about the fruit, mostly. Somewhat bitter, woody finish. Dense and rich, but very easy to drink. Finished half the bottle over dinner with the balance left for tomorrow night. Quite enjoyable at this stage but has plenty of room to get more complex. A great match and has the heft for tonight's callos madrileña and leftover pizza rustica.

Pride is one of those handful of wineries where I prefer the regular to the reserve. We drank a '92 regular last week that was magnificent.

It's the Filipino connection. Pride's Associate Winemaker Romel Rivera, and former Cellarmaster Lawrence Cortez are both Filipinos. Lawrence and his wife Nieves now own Corte Riva which I import. When Lawrence and Nieves come to visit they sometimes bring some Pride with them.

Never had an older Pride. Maybe I should try aging some of my stash a couple of decades!

I don't know if recent Prides would age well; the wines were probably made differently back then (what wasn't) and, of course, '92 was a very ageable vintage.
