Asparagus/chevre tart, salad, and the 2008 F. Cotat “les Monts Damnes” Sancerre. Bright and nervy, lovely fruit, wet rocks and seashells on the finish. A-/B+
Saturday was oysters, grey sole, spinach, rice.
2018 Hubert Lamy “Clos du Meix” St-Aubin, 1er Cru
I like Lamy but new vineyard to me. Taut, but with rich peach and citrus fruit, good length. Fun wine B+
Easter brunch , distanced at sister-in-law’s. Green (broccoli rabe) shakshuka, deviled eggs, fruit salad.
NV Charles Ellner Carte Blanche Brut Champagne
Pastry dough, on sweet side, needs more crispness. Slightly coarse mousse. I remember thinking Ellner was a good value in past, but there are cavas I like more than this. C+
2019 Vollenweider Wolfer Goldgrube Riesling Kabinett
This is more Spatlese like, but it does have very good acids. Pit fruits, mango, slate. B+
Easter dinner, with ham, scalloped potatoes, green salad
2016 Clos du Roillete/Coudert “Griffe Marquis” Fleurie
A bit tight, full-bodied wine, floral and black cherry fruit eventually emerges, better on day 2. B at moment
After a Gilman article named Lafouge as a leading bargain in red Burgundy, some folks said they didn’t know the wines, so that was theme for our Zoom call last night. I split 2 bottles and dropped half at Dean’s, while Betsy made duck breast, mushrooms, broccoli and leftover potatoes
2010 Lafouge “La Chapelle” Auxey-Duresses 1er
Quite structured, air does it a lot of good, spicy edge to the black cherry fruit, with some smoke and a bacon edge that seems almost Rhonish. Only a couple left, will hold for a bit. B for now, I think B+/ A- potential
2013 Lafouge “La Chapelle” Auxey-Duresses 1er
A bit reticent as well at first, doesn’t have much tannin compared to 2010, but with air there is some sandalwood and that spicy note. Light, more elegant than powerful, with air drinking very nicely, though not real long. B+/B
Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C
drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice.Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.
