WTN: Two Whites.....(short/boring)

by TomHill » Wed Mar 31, 2021 3:26 pm

Tried these two whites last weekend:
1. VillaAlpini PinotGrigio DOC: Friuli (13%; GiulianaImprts/Boulder) 2018: Med.light gold color w/ lots of small bubbles/dissolved CO2; pleasant PG/carnations/lightly floral light chalky bit simple nose; fairly tart light chalky light/pleasant floral/carnations/PG rather simple flavor; med.long light floral/PG/carnations/fruity light chalky finish; a pleasant enough expression of PG but on the simple side & not much to say; not really bland but not much of interest; a real step above SantaMargarita PG but that's a pretty low bar; fairly priced for what it is but just kinda boring. $16.00 (KK)

2. FRM Francois Rousset-Martin Cuvee du Professeur Sous-Roche Vin Ouilles Savagnin Ad'OP: Cotes du Jura (Lot LSR16; 13%; MeBalP; U/U; 30 yr old vines; KermitLynchImprts) 2016: Med.dark golden/burnished bronze some cloudy color; slightly nutty/oxidative rather toasted almonds earthy some Chard-like/melony/honeyed/floral/spicy fairly complex nose; quite tart/tangy rather nutty/toasted almonds some oxidative/nutty rich/ripe slight melony/honeyed/Chard-like slight sherry-like rather complex interesting flavor; very long/lingering some oxidative/nutty/toasted almonds some melony/Chard-like/slight floral quite savory bit bitter some earthy/dusty finish; definitely an oxidative character but some likew a vin-Juane-light; quite an interesting rather savory white but kinda pricey for what it is. $56.00 (KK)

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. Jura: This was a rather interesting wine made from Savagnin or Traminer that is used in vin Juane. This wine is a Vin Ouilles, which means a wine made in topped-up barrels w/ none of the Voille or flor-yeast that is present in Vin Juane. However the wine did have a distinct oxidative character to it. A puzzle where that came from. Quite an interesting wine but on the pricey side.
