For the first time in half a year, I was able to convene a group of tasters for an al fresco tasting of Italian wines.
2007 Fratelli Brovia Barolo Ca'mia – light colour, pleasant with spice and good fruit levels, showing a little age. Very decent.
2000 Lamborghini Campoleone – this Umbrian wine was darker and showed tar in the no along with sweet fruit (it is Merlot and Sangiovese). It was delicious and had good length, and slightly browning edges.
1974 Fratelli Casetta Barbaresco – pale funky wine at first with dill in the nose, faded but not gone. With time the dill turned more to balsamic notes. Drying out but not lacking in interest.
2009 Castell'in Villa Chianti Classico – medium colour, very good nose of fruit ad toasted pine nuts with some vanilla and coconut. Medium body, medium length. Tasty.
2011 Castello di Bossi Girolamo – this IGT is all merlot, good colour, slightly sweet nose, soft tannins and good fruit. Needs time.
1994 Taurino Patriglione – this 100% Negroamaro from Salento was dark, ripe and not yet over the hill (although it probably has a good view from where it s now). Still fairly dark red with orange tint, it remains a good cheese wine.
