WTN: Bordeaux, Rotie, Cal. blend

by Jim Grow » Sun Mar 07, 2021 12:47 pm

I have been without the internet for over a month but now have a new modum, lap top and increased memory so am doing great now.

2015 Monbousquet: 60% merlot..30% cf and 10% cs...slightly sweet cassis like a young Napa cab. but with more minerality...fabulous in 10years but enjoyable today. decanted 6 hrs. in wide mouth decanter. no secondary complexity. 14.5 %

2015 Troplong Mondot: muted nose of black fruit and dust...sour cherry on palate, a bit astringent. not ready for prime time, 6 hr. decant again.... open again in 2030....great potential.....15.5% abv

2016 Martin Ray Synthesis: Napa red blend of unknown varieties and %....eucalyptus and blue and black fruit...dark ruby/black...very smooth mostly resolved tannins...drink now to 2030...14.8% abv

2010 Patrick Jasmin Cotie Rotie: barnyard lite and herb heavy with sour but not tart cherry...dark ruby with amber edges 12.5% drink now to 2028....maybe longer

The note on Monbousquet reminded me that I have a half case of 2005 I haven't touched. I put a bottle in my to drink line - I think your 10 years of ageing is probably just right!

You also inspired me to decide when to drink my last 1986 Troplong - may put it in the line as well.

Glad the notes are helpful. Other than a couple of 86 Gruaud Larose and 99 Pavie, my Bordeaux are pretty young , including my few 2000`s. I should have started when in my 20`s not 40`s.

Leave that 86 Gruaud awhile yet (I have 6 bb I haven't gone near yet) It is an old time hard wine.

I bought a case in 1990 for the now unbelievable price of $220 out-the-door from N. Berkley and wish I still had left most untouched

I have a 2000 Troplong Mondot in the (exceedingly long) queue.
