WTN: Joh. Jos. Prüm Bernkasteler Badstube Auslese 2007

Lockdown Wine #85. Champagne gold. Not much going on in the nose. Ripe orchard fruit and some brown sugar. Fantastic on the palate. Apple skins, grape skins, baked apple, very ripe mandarin orange, candied citrus peel, and peach. Doesn't seem auslese sweet; no doubt due to the very bright, powerful and refreshing acidity balancing the sweetness. This makes it rather good as a wine to go with a meal. Had it with a hearty and rustic Hungarian sausage and potato soup, German cucumber salad, and a German meat pie. Some citrus pith bitterness at the end. Good length. Outstanding stuff and a great drink now.
Three be the things I shall never attain:
Envy, content, and sufficient champagne.

Prüm does wonderful things in the Badstube. It has the additional advantage of being a bit less expensive than the other Prüm wines.

Nice note, Jay.
David, have you tried any 2008s lately? I apparently have 6+ Badstube Kabs that I need to locate.

I have not. In fact I don’t own a single 2008 Prüm. There was a brief period where I paused due to overweighting in the cellar. I got past that stupidity a few years later.
