The positive side of bureaucracy

by Paul Winalski » Thu Feb 25, 2021 10:22 am

Sometimes unthinking bureaucracy has a positive side. At the New Hampshire State Liquor Store, they recently put their 2017 Beaujolais grands crus out for clearance at deep (50%+) discount. I've tried a couple of them so far and they could use another five or so years of ageing. I think they saw "Beaujolais" and the 3-year age and panicked. I certainly could see wanting to dump 3-year-old nouveau or low-end villages, but not the crus. At these prices I'll gladly help them get rid of their stock.
