2016 Domaine Taupenot-Merme Auxey-Duresses 1er Cru Pinot Noir
Another CTer's review from 5/20 still applies: "Nicely pitched black cherry, purple plum, sap, fallen pine needles, and river rock notes...youthfully lively and lifted. Balances it flavors nicely, despite some juvenile linearity." Medium bodied, perfectly en point for a dinner of pork schnitzels doused in fresh meyer lemon. But an interesting exercise: a bazillion years ago I didn't like pinot noir at all until I attended a horizontal tasting of fine Burgundies, of which my favorites were a DRC Echezaux and a Leroy Auxey Duress. Given the Leroy was less than half the price of the other, I bought quite a few, my most expensive wine purchase EVER at the time. Out of sentimentality, I've been unable to pass up any Auxey Duress since, and of course none have come close to the Leroy but in my fond heart all carry her resonance. And this was another, a very lovely one.
