WTN: Seigneurs Year

2013 Trimbach Gewurztraminer Cuvée des Seigneurs de Ribeaupierre - France, Alsace (2/21/2021)
Off dry, and very aromatic, it’s textbook Gewurztraminer. Roses, ginger, lychee, and spice are all present, allied to an oily texture that leaves an indelible palate presence. It’s an exercise in mobile balance, as the textural richness interacts with the complex aromatics, pulsing like a band mid-jam, with multiple melodies anchored by a rhythmic core.

Only a lyrical tasting note like this could make me yearn for gewurz. Good job.

It's my second least favorite grape. I've had some that were delicious but a heavy spice amplified by even the slightest amount of RS doesn't work for me. So, as a generality, I avoid them.

Avoid this one. Even as a Trimbach, it shows a moderate level of RS.

David,
is it your experience that SdR has been getting sweeter (possibly due to warmer climate)? I think back in the 80s and 90s a lot of vintages were pretty dry. I haven't tasted a lot in this century, but most have shown RS, though not like many of their neighbors.

Depends on the vintage. 2008 seemed close to dry. This 2013 is in what i would call "feinherb" style. I suspect it's just a factor of ripeness, and not wanting to release a wine with 16% alcohol. The heydays of truly dry SdR may be gone thanks to climate change.
