WT3Nights:Better than just Red Water

2015 DV8 Cellars Eau Rouge

This was a Berserker Day purchase, one of several in the mixed reds offer. Brick fading to garnet to pale rose at rim. Excellent clarity. Legs are medium to slow and changed over several days of tasting; widened. Aromas are red fruit forward:strawberry, raspberry, hint of blueberry. Other aromas are vanilla, light toast (warning, Jenise) subtle spice: clove, cinnamon, eucalyptus evolving to mint over time. Tannins are definitely wood (another warning, Jenise). First two days, wine seemed more bold, even masculine. Then, it changed to more silky/smooth feminine style. This added complexity & interest. Staying power was a plus, as we almost always consume a bottle over 3-5 days. Glad we have another bottle on hand. Drink now or within 2 years.

They were a Berserker Day newbie this year, right?

Never heard of DV8. Looks like a license plate. :) Where are they? You didn't include a location.

DV8 Cellars is Central Coast. Their tasting room is in the Funk Zone, Santa Barbara. Small winery. Right now I believe most if not all sales are direct to consumer.

They have been on Berserker Day for at least a few years. I've only been following BD for 3 years. Our wine was purchased in 2019. I met the vintner, Marc Simon, at a wine charity event in 2018. There I sampled his wines and was intrigued.

Marc is an auto racing buff and the labels usually feature race cars.

Were we to go to Santa Barbara, we would venture far away from touristy areas like the Funk Zone. There are other tasting rooms in the city that are of greater interest. Au Bon Climat, for example.

Hope this is helpful.

OMG, I've been to the Funk Zone but didn't even know it--I had no idea the area had a name. Three/four years ago we went with friends to a particular deli to chase down some Bergeron wines and we parked our car down the block in front of Pali. It's a winery I knew "from the very start', to quote Tom Hill. Back when we were friends with Brian Loring, they made a deal with him--they'd build him a winery in exchange for him making their wines. He did, and eventually we bought some, and then it fell off my radar--I haven't seen or heard of Pali in years. But there they were! Was sorry we couldn't drop in to taste that day.

Cool. I have a Pali 2012 PN Huntington, Santa Barbara County, in my cellar. Acquired 2014. Planning to enjoy this year.

Pali is still around, and seems to have multiple tasting rooms. When they are open, if they are open, of course.

I checked out the web page via the link you provided. What an interesting array of wines they make now! (I noticed a lot of them are on sale, too.)
